My Current Creative Space

If you read my last blog post, you would know that I am no longer a resident of Hammond, USA, but am now a proud resident of the Red Stick AKA Baton Rouge! For the past year, I was driving to Baton Rouge from Hammond for work, while my now fiancee was finishing her undergraduate degree. We agreed that we wanted to move to BR so that she could go to graduate school at LSU, and I could be closer to work. So, we moved.

One of the things that was extremely high on my list for our new apartment was an office space. As you guys probably know, I love to create things, and I would much rather not do that in the corner in our bedroom. Luckily we found a place that’s pretty close to campus and my job that had an en suite office space. That space houses my desk, computer, resources, and essential musical equipment (other things are located in a storage unit on the apartment property).

Most of you have no idea what my last office space set up looked like (my bad), but just know that I didn’t decorate or put anything on the walls. That decision was partly because I kept putting it off and partly because I knew we weren’t going to be there for long so I didn’t want to waste my time making the space my own. We plan on being in this space for at least a few years so last week I decided to hang a few things up with the intention of getting more things to put on the walls. I love having inspirational things on the wall they really do help liven up the space and spark creativity.

While I absolutely love the new creative space, it did not come with any storage options whatsoever. My solution was to buy a bookshelf and stuff as many things as possible onto said bookshelf. I do have quite a few books and nick nacks that I thought would look cool on display. There were also a few things that I needed quick access to that don’t look too bad on a bookshelf. No creative space is complete without a dry erase and/or cork board place to write and pin ideas, inspiration, memories, etc.

So far, I’m extremely satisfied with my new space. It’s not the largest, but it’s definitely enough to work with. As I regain my creative drive and energy, I look forward to documenting and creating new things here. As things update and come and go, I’ll keep you guys updated.
