Child Portraits in Denver City Park - Victoria Outfit 1

I had the absolute pleasure to take child portraits of Victoria in Denver City Park in what seemed to be the peak of fall color here in Colorado. Her mother and I connected through a local photography group, and quickly set up a shoot before the temperature really dropped.

The child portraits below are of Victoria’s first outfit during our entire photo session. Her outfit is from pfldkids, an online clothing store.

When I arrived at the location, Victoria was wearing her coat, a yellow hat, and matching scarf. She looked adorable and I could not wait to capture her cuteness.

We started slow and simple with basic poses. To gain her trust, I decided to do something fun and have her gather leaves and throw them into the air. After a few leaf tosses, Victoria was all smiles and she continued to be an absolute joy.

Location 1: Background of leaves

Denver City Park is huge and full of beautiful scenes to photograph. These locations are all within a few feet of one another.

The first “location” was along a path that had a wonderful background full of leaves.

Location 2: The Bench

The second “location” was a bench that was tucked away behind some tall grass. While some people believe that park benches are a bit cliche’, I believe that they are a classic and easy location based prop that brings a unique element to the scene.

In this location we also decided to add an additional prop, a book. These photos remind me of something out of a storybook. There’s something nostalgic about a photo of a child reading a book. It transports you to a time before technology was so rampant.

Location 3: The Empty Creek

The 3rd and final location was on the bridge that crosses over a creek. Luckily for me, the creek was dry when we were photographing and I was able to get down into it. I love these photos. They remind me of scenes from a movie like Bridge to Terabithia.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoy this first set of photos of Victoria. She was wonderful to photograph and her mother were a pleasure to work with.
