Top 3 Reasons You Should Have a Business Facebook Page
So you finally decided to start that business. You’re a graphic designer, writer, artist, model, photographer, or whatever. You’ve decided that you’re going to take things a little more seriously. Congratulations! I believe that the only way to really know if something will work is to go all in.
I know that the data suggests that Facebook is on the decline, but believing in the big blue F is still very beneficial to business owners, no matter your target demographic. Even if you’ve been in business, have a website or a dedicated Instagram profile, you should still be on Facebook.
Reason 1: Sharing Potential
Snapchat and Instagram may be the hot socials on the block, but it’s still pretty difficult to share things with others in a way that’s beneficial to a new or relatively small business. Sure you could Snapchat something but unless you’re a larger page, your stories will disappear like everyone else’s. There’s no way for your followers to share things through S napchat with their friends and family.
And sure Instagram lets you share other’s posts to your story, but there’s no way to link them anywhere. Unless you have 10,000 followers, you only have one link opportunity in your bio to send your followers to your content. Let’s be honest, most people are not going to change THEIR one link to support YOUR business.
Facebook is still one of the best places to post content with links that are easily shareable and accessible to the vast majority of your followers. It’s true that all your fans don’t always see all your posts, but it’s a lot easier for them to share and digest your content on Facebook than Snapchat and Instagram.
Reason 2: Advertising Potential
You’ve probably heard the term “Pay to play” thrown around when it comes to social reach. If you want to play ball with the big boys, you might need to invest a little money. Yes, Snapchat may be hot but Facebook is hotter.
Having a Facebook business page grants you access to the Facebook Ads manager. The ads manager is filled with stats and analytics and tracking capabilities and all sorts of things. Also, it’s the best way to run ads on Instagram as well.
Facebook ads are probably going to be your easiest best bang for your buck when it comes to advertising. You can target people based on all sorts of demographics. It also allows you to create ads based on your objective: reach, views, clicks, conversions, likes, etc. I’ll probably go into more detail about this at a later date, but the possibilities are ever expanding.
Reason 3: Facebook Analytics
I touched on this in the previous reason, but Facebook’s analytics are constantly getting better. Their page insights along with their actual analytics provide a lot of helpful information for your business.
Of course, insights provides you information about your Facebook page and it’s visitors. This information is helpful for determining the types of posts your audience reacts to, posting times, reach, video views and more. You could also use this data when building your ad strategy.
Facebook Analytics is similar to Google analytics in that you place some code on your website and Facebook tracks visits, shares, comments, retention, demographics, and more. While it’s not as extensive and detailed as Google Analytics, it’s still a great place to check on simple website stats. The interface is user-friendly and understandable so if GA scares you, this a great place to start.
Bonus Tip: Instagram Capabilities
Having a Facebook business page allows you to sign up for an Instagram business account. They literally won’t let you have a business account without a Facebook page. This, in turn, allows you run ads on your Instagram account.
You could run ads on your Instagram business page from your phone, but it’s rather limiting in the creation, ad options, and analytics. Speaking from experience, if you like to get granular with your analytics and data, you should be running ads from the Facebook ads manager.
Final Thoughts
My entire career, although I’m just getting started, has revolved around Facebook. I was a social media intern, social media manager, social media ads manager, and now marketing assistant with the majority of my job details focused on social media and social media marketing.
I am by no means a guru or know it all. I have a lot to learn, but I have seen the power of Facebook work for many businesses, including my own. The skills, techniques, and practices I’ve learned since starting my career have literally resulted in millions of dollars of revenue for clients and a nice hefty side hustle check for myself.
I speak so highly of Facebook only because I know that it can help change your business if you’re willing to put in the time, work , or money to make it work for you.
