Vision & Attraction

Moving into 2020

Early in my photography journey, when scouting the internet looking for inspiration, I came across the phrase “Your display of work attracts your clients”. I thought to myself, that makes sense. People will hire you for the work that they see. This simple statement was nothing more than an agreeable thought at the time.

As I learned more and more about photography and the business side of things, I saw the quote again. This time, however, I thought that I would be more intentional about the work that I shared. I wanted to get families and individuals, etc as clients. I was taking those shoots and working that scene and for a while, it was working. I was booking families, birthdays, children, etc.

Initial Attraction

Somewhere along the way, though, I began to dabble in areas of photography that weren’t related to those previously mentioned. I wanted to shoot creative things, models, concepts, etc. These different areas of photography captured my attention and were (in my opinion) more fun to me.

I began to create this vision in my head of the types of shoots I could do and the images I could create. The only downside was I hadn’t figured out how to make money from this. I still needed the other kind of photography to generate income. So my vision was torn. How do I attract portrait clients when I want to do creative work?

Realization

It’s no coincidence that this coming year is 2020. I’ve seen the memes and posts already but it is the year of vision. My vision is to do more creative work and figure out a way to make money from it. This is not to say that I don’t want to take photos of families and seniors and children, but I want to brand myself as more than the family photographer.

My goal in all of my creative endeavors is to tell a story creatively. Documenting families and their milestones is always a great story, but it lacks the creativity my brain craves. I want to produce work that evokes emotions, thoughts, ideas, and more. I want to help businesses and brands show themselves visually.

Vision

My vision for the future has expanded far greater than what I imagined when I first picked up a camera. There’s nothing wrong with this. I’ll never forget where I started, but now it’s time to focus on where I’m going. Moving forward, ItsLarryG Creations will be showing the work I want to attract.

There will always be a place for families and portraits in my schedule, heart, and repertoire, but my focus will be on pursuing my creative goals. These are the goals that drive me and I would be doing myself and everyone else a disservice if I did not listen to them.

As always, thank you all for taking the time to check out my work. I appreciate all the love and support. And if you ever need photos or video, please let me know, I’d be more than happy to help tell your story.
