My Everyday Headphones

I’m not joking or exaggerating when I say I pick up and use these headphones every single day. They’re on my head right now as I’m typing this. Everyone that knows me even a little, knows that music is an enormous part of my life, and when I’m not interacting with other humans, you can usually find me with a pair of headphones on. Don’t get me wrong, I love human interaction, but there’s nothing like the feeling of zoning out to a great podcast or sweet melodies or bars.

If you’ve known me for a while, I used to rock the Skullcandy Hesh 2’s. I still own them, and they have become my designated gym/workout headphones. Still great and still serving a purpose. I’ll admit that while I love Skullcandy, they really weren’t my first choice of headphones when I decided to upgrade. My first choice was the Sony MDR XB950BTs. I bought them for myself as an early Christmas gift and travel companion for our trip to England. They survived the trip, but soon after we got home, they were destroyed. I was devastated and it took immense self control to not go and buy a new pair the night I discovered they were broken. To this day, I’m still not entirely sure how that happened. The beauty of it all was that Valentine’s Day was near and my then girlfriend (now fiancee) thought it would a great idea to buy me a new pair of headphones.

While it was nothing for me spend the $150-$200 on headphones, I couldn’t bring myself to ask her to do the same. I already loved my Skullcandy Hesh 2s and when my Sony’s were destroyed, they easily became my go-to’s once again. I had been doing research on the Hesh 3 and knew that they would be a decent pair of headphones for the price. When she asked which headphones I was thinking about, I immediately said the Skullcandy Hesh 3 Wireless. We went on to our local Best Buy, scooped up a pair in black, and I have been rocking them ever since.

My Thoughts

If I’m being completely honest, these do not match the Sony MDR XB950BTs I had. However, don’t count them out all together. Skullcandy makes an excellent product for a reasonable price. These headphones sound amazing and have a noticable difference from the Hesh 2. They are not as bass heavy as some of their other headphone models and I really appreciate that. These headphones are wireless which I consider to be a huge plus considering my phone doesn’t have a headphone jack. They are comfortable to wear for multiple hours at a time, and while they may feel like they’re made of a cheaper plastic, they hold their own without a case in the bottom of my messenger bag. They fold into a nice compact design and are extremely easy to use and get used to.

If you’re looking for a great pair of headphones from a company that’s been around the block a few times, I can happily recommend the Skullcandy Hesh 3 wireless. I haven’t had any issues so far. I have connected them to around 3 different devices and they work just fine on each of them.
