Sondra showed up with little to no direction on how to pose. After some light coaching from me and cheering from her mom, she was able to relax and find some poses that look great for her.

Even if I end up doing the exact same poses every week, the idea is that over time, something will change or improve. I will discover a new secret, technique, pose, or idea within myself.

This week, I experimented with some off camera flash at night.

I’ve seen great photos taken with a smartphone, micro 4/3 cameras, crop sensor cameras, old DSLR cameras, medium format cameras, polaroid cameras, mirrorless cameras, and everything in between. 

Larger than life crowds of rambunctious people are really not my forte. However, when my sister-in-law, who lives in England, asks you to go to a parade, you go.

This Self Portrait Sunday is about the spirit of exploration and adventure. I didn’t go anywhere special. I didn’t do anything really adventurous.

It’s true that Baton Rouge is only 20 minutes away and New Orleans isn’t much farther, but I’m confident that Ascension Parish has beautiful locations for your portrait photography needs.
